The Computing Technology Industry Association, or CompTIA, created the A+ certification to certify entry level computer technicians. Several major employers require the A+ certification from their entry level IT staff and several organizations, like CompUSA, require A+ certification for their repair staff.

The A+ certification was reevaluated in 2003 to reflect new technologies and operating systems. The OS test was updated with Windows ME and Windows XP and the Core Hardware exam was updated to reflect newer technologies and broadband access.
The Core Hardware exam consists of 6 domains of knowledge:

You must pass both of these exams to become A+ certified.
